  red marks on thighs? (mayflower28)

I am new to this forum (and new to cloth diapering as I am a fairly new mommy).  My DD is 5 mo and has just started to get really bad red marks on her thighs from her AF covers.  She has been in MEOS since about 8 weeks.  She is still in small covers (smallest setting on waist and largest setting on legs) but I just ordered med. ones today because I know she will need them soon.  She is 13 lbs and seems to still have a gap in the binding at the legs so I don't think they are tight enough to be causing chafing.  I also don't think they feel wet when I change her but maybe since the binding is polyester it's harder to feel the wet?  Is it possible that even though there seems to be a gap when I put them on, as her legs move the positioning changes and then it starts to chafe or is there another possible reason for the redness?  Any advice or thoughts from some more experienced mommies would be appreciated!

My dd is 5 months tomorrow. Not sure how much she weighs now, but was 16 lbs at 3.5 months.
I moved her up to the M/L a good while ago, but have the same problem you are talking about.
I have to put it on smallest leg size otherwise it seems gaping, and the waist is 1 in on 1 side, 2 in on other. I dont think dd can go up to the L yet.
I had prefered the airflows till recently but now like the rikki better. However, we use pfs most of the time and they dont fit in the rikki with all the bulk. If she has on a meos, I use the rikki wrap or a lite wrap.

I would definitely try to loosen the cover. It doesn't need to be tight at all to work, it is simply there to stop the fabric from coming in contact with the wet diaper. Gaps are normal. It is possible that now that you babes are moving quite a bit more, the cover is a bit tight on them. Try to loosen it and see what happens!

My daughter had the same thing, and it turned out it was the diapers themselves rather than the cover that was to blame (we went coverless for a while). Whenever the binding got wet it rubbed against her thighs and made them raw. I just make sure that now I change her before the binding gets wet and it seems to have solved the problem. I still haven't found a solution for overnight though; we are just using disposables.

We had this problem with our DD. After trial and error, we realized her skin was irritated by the combination of friction and wetness. We were able to clear up the redness by using Eucerin lotion everywhere she was red. The lotion seems to provide just enough to soothe and protect the skin against normal diaper wetness. Once the redness cleared up, we were even able to CD over night. A thin layer of vaseline would also do the job, if you already have that on hand. I also agree with queenesther about changing the diap before the bindings soak through.
