Silly question...
I am new to using a poweder soap with my HE machine adn clothes diapers. Where and when do you put powder soap in an HE machine when cleaning you clth diapers?

I add it to the soap dispenser area before I do the wash, just like I would for a cloths load... I usually do a cold pre rinse cycle (no soap) and then start the hot wash cycle (add soap)

We do the same with our HE Front Loader.  We run a pre-rinse first with no detergent [the fill water still runs through the soap dispenser].  We turn off the spin option [keeps the dipes sopping wet and heavier which tricks the machine into using more water for the wash].  12 minutes later I go back, add half a scoop of Charlie's Soap powder to the detergent cup and set the machine to heavy duty [2hr hot] or sanitize [3hr very hot].  We wash twice a week, so atleast once per week I squirt some Bi-o-kleen Bac Out into the bleach cup.  We always do a second rinse at the end too.  Our machine uses so little water, even with the extra pre and post rinses, our water bill is still cut 30% from our old top loader.

Hope that helps!

Interesting idea about turning off the spin.  I've just been adding some water to my pail to get the diapers heavier before dumping them into the machine, but I like this.  I currently just select the pre-wash option (no detergent), as a part of the overall cycle, since there's a separate cup for that and the main wash detergent, but I'll have to see if I can just do a pre-rinse without the spin, or at least with low spin (and remember to go back and start the main cycle . . .).

I should say for the OP, that some people with HE machines add detergent only to the pre-rinse/wash, and then the main wash kind of acts like a serious rinse in hot water.  If you are having any trouble with detergent build-up in your diapers, you might want to give this approach a try.
