I have been using MEOS on my daughter for about 15 months now and have been battling eczema in the diaper area for about 9.5 months. We finally know that she is allergic to several foods and that chocolate and tomato irritate the eczema. I put her in disposables for a few days recently to give her skin a chance to totally heal now that we are aware of the food irritants. She was totally itchless after a few days and her skin had healed so I put her back in cloth and suddenly she had a red rash that obviously itches like mad. Has anyone ever had this experience? I tried fleece liners but the fleece seems to irritate her skin. I have stripped the diapers even though there did not seem to be buildup. I would really like to get her out of disposables! I have soap nuts ordered and on the way and am hoping those will help. Any other suggestions would really be appreciated!

My DD didn't have food allergies, but she did get eczema in her diaper area because her skin was irritated by the combination of friction and wetness. We were able to clear up the redness by using Eucerin lotion everywhere she was red (in addition to changing her diaper frequently). The lotion seems to provide just enough to soothe and protect the skin against normal diaper wetness. Once the redness cleared up, we were even able to CD over night. A thin layer of vaseline might also do the job, if you already have that on hand.

We had this exact problem with our little guy. I was going crazy with the rash, and switched him to disposables thinking it would go away, but it actually didn't and got worse.

The things that have helped my ds, now back full time in cloth and rash free, for the first time in months, is changing him every 90 minutes when possible and using Calendula Cream. I use a fleece liner when I'm putting it on him, but I have to use it less and less now as long as he gets changed frequently and gets a little air time.

I also do an extra hot wash/cold rinse with vinegar each time to make sure all the detergent is out.

His eczema was so bad, but the calendual really cleared it up. Kathy

My son had this issue, i tried many different things over many months.  When i started washing in soap nuts, his itchy red thighs healed up, and we haven't had an issue in the diaper area since.  So for us it was detergent.  He still has patches of ezema on his elbows, backs of knees etc, I am thinking about trying a hazelwood necklace for him.  I met a woman yesterday and her son had one, she said it was awesome for his diaper rash.
Good luck!
