question XL airflow covers (rebecca)
Posted: 5:37:29 am on 4/4/2009 Modified: Never

Our son is 16 months old and wears MEOS diapers with large airflow covers. He's a bigger-than-average boy, but since he's recently started to potty train himself I'm hopeful that he'll fit the MEOS diapers right through until he's trained. Even when using a doubler at night, we still have one more snap to let out before we reach the biggest fitting on the MEOS diapers. With the large covers however, I'm already using the loosest snap around the thighs. In our son's case, it also seems like a little bit more length in the rise might help the cover fit for longer. Because our boy is quite big around the thighs and smaller in the waist, he seems almost certain to grow out of the large covers before he grows out of the one size diaper. Has anyone tried using the XL Airflow covers with the MEOS diapers? Might this work for a child like ours? Might this enable us to get along for a few more months with the MEOS, rather than buying toddlease or other larger-size diapers? He's pretty active and seems likely to grow more in length than in bulk over the next 6 months or so, anyway. . . so a little bit more cover space around the thighs and in the rise might go a long way.
I'd value any feedback on this question, especially from anyone who has used the XL covers over the MEOS diapers.
Thanks a lot!

I used XL covers over MEOS and they fit fine.  They are just longer in the rise.  With my DD who was pretty chunky, the OS fit almost right to the end but not quite.  There's still a chance that he will outgrow the OS before the XL covers but his weight will probably level out and the fact you say he's potty training already means you can probably make them work.  I personally would have gotten some toddlerease for my DD if I had realized the OS weren't quite going to make it but she didn't potty train until close to age 3.
ME has extender tabs which might be handy in a case like yours to make the OS work.

Yes, I have used XL AFs over MEOS with great success on my toddlers with chunky thighs.  At one point my DS wore his MEOS with only the outermost snap on each side fastened, and it held great--it never popped open.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. This has strengthened my resolve to go ahead and buy a couple of XL covers! I also think the extender tabs sound like a great idea, but will have to email Mother-ease about those as I can't figure out how to order them online.
Very best wishes,
Rebecca
