I just purchased MEOS and washed them once and they don't absorb well at all. My question is..... How many times should they be washed in the beginning?

Did you get bleached or unbleached MEOS?
I've heard one kind releases the processing oils faster than the other.
I usually run my new dipes through 4 washes & rinses, but only dry once at the end. You want to wash out all the oils & residues & prep them for absorbency. For us, with unbleached & bamboo, 4 washes did the trick. I'd say we saw max absorbency about a month out. But they worked fine initially after 4 washes. It just built up after that.

The bleached (white) fabric requires less prewashing because the processing/bleaching washes a lot of the natural oils out. The unbleached fabric has been through much less processing so it requires more prewashing to get the oils out. Between 4-6 *hot* washes should make them fine to use, with the bleached maybe requiring one or two less...
