  Advice on MEOS (Mekayla)

Sorry if someone has asked this, but sifting through all the questions is taking too long . I have 24 MEOS diapers, my 9 mth old s currently on the M Airflow covers, but I would like to buy what she'll need next used to save some money so Im at a dillema. I am thinking I'll need some L (maybe 4) and some M-L (maybe 4 too) covers for her next stages. How far will this get me? I am hoping to diaper until she is potty trained...and that leads me to my next question. Should I invest in some bedwetter or training pants for when she's at that stage? I don't think the MEOS diapers can be used for potty training, am I right? Since they do not slip down and up. I noticed in one of the replies it was mentioned that ME made extention pieces for the MEOS diaper? I couldn't find it on the site...and are these just to make the diapers last beyond the 35lbs if they are not training yet? Also,  how many diapers would I need extra if i am planning on having a second and my first one is still in diapers? Would I just get another 24 for full time diapering? Sorry there is so many questions, but I like to plan ahead because if i don't the time flies and all of a sudden she's at a stage where I don't have the proper fitting diapers, etc. I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me. Thanks so much!

First:
Skip the M/L covers. They are so much like mediums in size that they aren't worth the money unless you skipped the mediums altogether. I sold my 1 M/L with my mediums. They are so close in size.
Extender tabs: you gotta call them to get them.
Potty training: you could use the OS or Sandy's. True the OS won't pull down as easily but it can be done. But your baby is 9 months old, so it'll be a while unless you are doing elimination communication. I'd cross that road when you get a little closer. I personally prefer undies for PT anyway. What's the point in using diapers to diaper and use them for PT too? It's like using pull-ups, which I find delay PT anyway. To produce a difference there needs to be a difference. In my opinion.
Please don't flame me-just personal pref on that one.
More dipes for more kids: not necessarily. Your washer can only hold so much, so more dipes won't do it. It's more frequent washes that you are really doing. You could get a handful more if you'd like to hang dry or to have for overlap. But you don't need twice the stash.
You can watch the For Sale forum part of this website & wait to get a good deal on a few used Sandy's or trainer pants if you'd like. Also more OS for that second child. You can get some really great deals on some great dipes if you just watch & wait.

I agree with the PP--skip the M/L, and cross the potty-training bridge when you get there.  My DS#2 is doing that right now, and we are actually able to use the OS to pull up and down for him (never would have worked on DS#1, though, because of his build, but would couldn't do that with the L Sandys, either).  My kids don't seem to really care if they are in undies vs. diapers, so I have used/am using diapers while PTing, but again, that is very dependent on you and your babe--you just have to go with what's working at the time, I think.  I haven't used training pants, but some people really like them.  We are just using the OS like undies, without covers except for naps and night.  (The benefit to me is that they can be unsnapped for poop accidents and all I do is add the cover for nap/night, instead of swapping the undies for the diaper, since I was encountering resistance with that.)
Whether you will need larger diapers and all again really just comes down to your babe.  My DS#1 was a whopper, but he was night-dry under 3 years, around 34/35 lbs, so I never needed anything but the OS and L Sandys that I had.  I, too, had begun looking ahead and wondering if I should get some TE, etc., but am glad it didn't junp the gun.  DS#2 is a little slower to PT, but significantly smaller, so I think that again I will be fine with what I have.
For two in diapers, I do really like the OS, because you don't have to keep track of sizes.  Half again as many should be plenty, definitely don't need double.  By the time you have the newborn going through tons of diapers, your older babe will be going through fewer, probably fewer than right now.  I had 40 diapers with two, but also prefer to line-dry, so that's probably more than you would want if you use the dryer.

I should say that because I was overseas at the time, I always looked to get my ME products in larger batches and way ahead of time to be able to come out with visitors.  When my DS#1 was getting toward PTing and getting to the upper weight limits, I posted for advice about bigger diapers, training pants, etc. because I wanted to order ahead.  It was a bit frustrating to hear that there wasn't a "typical" number/use pattern for the training pants and larger sizes like there is for the normal diapers.  But hearing that I should just wait to see what I truly needed was the best advice, because as it turns out, I really saved money because I didn't end up needing anything extra at all.

Have to agree with others in skipping the M/L and in waiting to see what your needs are when potty training time comes around. Most never need extenders (which is why I suspect they don't put them on the website) or even the bedwetter pants so you can just wait and see on that.

For potty training I did like using either diapers or training pants at certain points. There was just no way that I wanted to chance having an accident in a store or at a friend's house so I needed something that would absorb and was waterproof. But at home I never bothered, we just let them go naked. What you need or don't need really depends on your approach, your preferences, your little one's preferences and how easily/quickly they 'get it'.

Karen.

Oh yeah and you definetly don't need an additional 24 diapers for two in diapers. I have twins and you just don't need that many. Your washer can only handle so many like a previous poster said. So even if you have 100 diapers, you'll still have to do a load every day and a half to two days with two full-time in diapers (or whenever you have 20-25 diapers dirty). If you have 24 diapers right now, I would recomend getting 6-12 more if/when you have another baby. If you line dry, maybe you could use a few more than that, but definetly not another 24.

Karen.
