Washing Soda and Soap Nuts (kbylenga)

I just got my first shipment of soapnuts and have used them once on my dipes.  I'm waiting for my son's terrible diaper rash to go away before I start using the cloth dipes again.  In the meantime, I also picked up some washing soda and am planning on using that with the soapnuts.  Does anyone else do this, if so, how much do you add to your wash and is it necessary?

I use about 2 tablespoons of soda with each load.  I started using only the soapnuts and found that the diapers didn't smell very clean.  With the washing soda everything comes out smelling great.
