Does anybody know about using soap nuts in a front loading energy efficient washing machine?  Do you use it any special way or do they work just throwing them in the cotton bag?  Thanks!

I can't speak from personal experience as I don't have a front loader but they're supposed to be great for them because they're low sudsing... I don't see why you'd need to do anything special with them. All they need is hot water to release the saponin in them so just throwing them in sounds good to me.

I know there's another member here who likes to make the soap nuts into a liquid for her front loader, but I don't think you have to.

I like to make the liquid so I can just measure in half a cup and not worry about the little bag.  I boil a big pot of water (maybe about 8-10 cups of water) and add a handful of nut pieces or nuts.  Then I let it boil for 20 minutes or so.  Then I strain using a strainer and paper towels to make sure nothing but the liquid gets through.
I find that I can even make another half batch with the same nuts, if my nut pieces still look "juicy."

It takes a  bit of experimenting to see how dark you need your liquid to be.

good luck.

I have a front loader and I also make the liquid...  I boil 7-8 nuts in about 4 cups of water and then I use 1/2 to 3/4 cup of liquid per load of diapers...  HTH!!
