bald spots on cotton OS (christinet)

I just noticed a bald spot on one of my white cotton OS diapers.  I hav never used any of the "banned" substances as per Erika's post from 2007ish.  I know there were problems with bamboo at one point, but has anyone experienced it with cotton?  I'm just curious.  When my current load is done I'm going to check the rest of them.  I have over 30 of them that have been in heavy use for over three years on one child, and 10 months on another, so I'm not mad that they might be wearing out. Maybe I'll try some bamboo for the next baby in a couple of years!

Awwww....mama, I'll bet your heart sank just like mine did when I saw a bald spot!
Firstly, what does the spot look like? Is it a defined boarder area, where the terry is normal length and then suddenly you have netting OR is it gradually reduced in length terry ending with netting in the center?
#1 is called a "splash mark".
#2 is called a "wear spot".
Sometimes a chemical can accidentially "splash" onto the fabric, gradually eating that area away to nothing, hence the appearance resembling a "splash".
Or, as mine are, wear spots. Like your jeans wear more by the pocket corners or knees, diapers get "worn" in certain areas faster than other areas. My bamboo(all 20 of them) have worn areas at the waist & now beginning at the legs.
ME warranties all of their diapers. They should last 1 child birth - PT. If you think you have pre-mature wear, you should contact ME directly and explain your situation.
Good luck.
FYI-Erika told me not to worry about my dipes, they will replace them once I feel that absorbancy is compromised. Right now, my spots are all cosmetic.

It sounds like the diapers have fulfilled what they're guaranteed for, i.e one child's diapering, but most of us find that the diapers do last and last.  I have unbleached cotton OS that have been through two children now (nearly there), and some that have only been through one, and I would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between them.  I'm sure it'd be easy to tell them from new, but I really don't think they have any balding at all.  I did find my first little lint ball in a corner the other day, though, and while that's totally normal, it did make me a little sad anyway.  I do almost exclusively line-dry, and also have always used a front loader (some top-loader agitators are more agressive than others; my MIL's is evil!), so I suspect that my diapers have worn above-average gracefully.  (Now watch, tomorrow will find me poring over diapers looking for any signs of wear.)

What are these "banned" substances? I am assuming OxiClean is one of them.
