which wool cover is best?? (annylynn)

I've really really wanted a wool cover for awhile now for the breathability of them!! I'm just really confused about which ones are best. I've been looking at the stacinator and it looks nice and trim. I don't want it for overnight just daytime but i don't want it to leak!! I made some from an old sweater which seemed to work at first but not so great anymore maybe i need to use a wool wash instead! But it's not all that soft and still would like a nice soft wool cover. I only have my MEAir flows but i found she felt really hot the other day and with summer on it's way i don't want her to be hot all summer long!!

I'm not a big wool expert but I have liked the Aristocrats and Sugar-Peas wool covers. The Sugar-Peas come in two different weight wools, one that's apparently great for daytime. I also liked that the Sugar-Peas is already felted so I didn't have to be quite as careful when washing it.

As for the covers you're using now, have you relanolized them? Part of what makes wool waterproof (or water-resistant) is the presence of natural lanolin. But as you wash them the lanolin gradually gets washed away so you need to replace it. Wool washes usually have a small amount of lanolin so it naturally replenishes it everytime you wash. But you can also just use plain old lanolin, dissolve a small amount (like about 1/4" from the tube) in hot water and then put that in the water once you're finished washing your cover. You can use Lasinoh breast lanolin if you have some leftover that you're not using but if you buy some I'd recomend just buying some cheap stuff for the covers the Lasinoh is more expensive because it's guaranteed pure and safe for nursing). I think you can get some regular lanolin at pharmacies...

Karen.

ya i have tried relanolizing them but maybe not enough or often enough?? Who knows or maybe the wool sweater that i used was just too thin. So despite my aching thumbs (thanks to carpel tunnel) i decided to knit my own. I just can't stand the thoght of spending $40 on something i can make myself for less than 10! I love knitting but haven't done it in years since i started having little ones...nursing them caused carpel tunnel which doesn't bother me too much anymore but knitting always causes a flair up! I bought some Eucalan wool wash at the fabric store this morning so i'll give that a try with the covers!

You might have your own methods of dealing with the aching thumbs/wrists, but I, too, found that nursing and changing a heavy squirmer really caused a flare up.  It wasn't really practical to wear braces/splints during the day with all that changing, but I found that sleeping with them really helped me enough to get through the day.  Now that I'm not nursing or doing that much changing I can even knit and crochet again (in theory, not that I have that much time!).

Funny!  Was going to suggest Sugarpeas and Aristocrats too.  They are my favorite covers with ME diapers.  I used the Sugarpeas under clothes, and the crat under a dress or just a t-shirt.

I always liked the wool Bumpy covers.  They have aplix, which gave a great fit, and leg gussets, were easy to lanolise and care for and best of all, worked really well.

I really like the Vermont Diaper company wool covers.  I co-sleep with ds and have not had any issues with the bed getting wet.  And they are very soft.
