question What is the best Laundry Detergent? (newtoitall)

I'm new to CD - actually haven't started yet - and am wondering what everyone uses for laundry detergent? I have a front loader that needs HE so alot of the "special detergents" they sell in the stores around me aren't good - any suggestions?

I love my Charlie's Soap! It is very basic, very cheap, and requires me to do nothing but put in a scoop!

There was a blog on here awhile back about diapers holding a urine smell.  And someone suggested soap nuts, so I had to try them.  And I love them!  I even use them on my regular laundry now.

I have a FLer as well and i like Vaska and Crunchy Clean the best.  I've tried a lot of detergents but these have been the best for us.SAHM to DD (4/02) and DS (10/05), wife to Rick.

I've been happy with Country Save.
As you can see, I think you have some good HE options.  Not every detergent works for every washer with every water type, though, so pick whatever is easily available and seems like the best option, and stick with it until you have problems, which you likely won't.  You'll read about detergent problems on this board, but I truly believe that the vast majority of people are just washing happily with whatever they started with--they just aren't posting to say how happy they are.  :-)
Just remember to use 1/4-1/2 of the recommended amount (I believe this is plenty for regular laundry as well, but it's esp. important for the diapers that are getting washed so often).  You can also do something like wetting your diapers before they go into the machine (or after you've put them in) to make the machine think there's more and thus use a little more water to wash/rinse them.

We love Country Save, too.  We used Allen's first, but now use Country Save exclusively - even on our regular laundry.

Where do you buy your country save? I can't find it anywhere in my city.

I started out buying it a QFC which is a Kroger owned grocery store chain.  Then I was ordering it from Amazon.com because it was about 30% less than at the store.  But Amazon raised their prices so it is about the same as the store, so I found a co-op where I can buy a 50 pound bag for $40 - including shipping!

However, even on Amazon a 10 pound box comes to around $16 if I remember correctly (exactly the same as QFC) - which is still a good deal.  I use only 1/2 scoop per load in my front loader, which means a 10 pound box lasts us 160 washes so about 10 cents per wash.  If you have a top loader you would use a full scoop, so it would be 20 cents a load.

I'm not sure where you live, but here is my co-op.  You could find out if you're anywhere along their route and ask to be put in contact with one of their drop points.  That's what I did.

If you go to the Country Save website, they will tell you where (if) you can buy it locally.
