question Buying MEOS Used (Mommy2QTs)
Posted: 4:20:44 pm on 6/9/2009 Modified: Never

I haven't actually used ME diapers before and am fairly new to CD'ing so I'm looking for more experienced opinions, someone is selling her MEOS diapers (28 unbleached), 16 liners, and 12 air flow covers (sizes s-l) for $150 CAD. They were used for two children and were purchased about 5 years ago, one or two have light stains and the rest are in excellent condition. Are they likely worthwhile after having been used for two children and purchased 5 years ago? TIA

Well, depends. Did she CD full time or part time with both? Were they in diapers for 2 years plus each? How did she wash them? Harsh chemicals like bleach or oxyclean can shorten the life of fabrics. Some people have different ideas of "excellent used condition" or "good used condition", so I don't know about her vs you standards.
That many dipes & liners would be about $350 new, so halfsies for price and then some is a good sign, even if they aren't perfect.
I guess try to find out their history more first? That's my advice.

I didn't ask how long they were used but they were rinsed in the toilet and put in one pail right away then transferred to a bigger one when the smaller one was full with water and a small amount of borax, they were pre-rinsed, washed in hot water and she never used bleach or fabric softener. Does that sound okay? Thanks!

Nothing strikes me as worrisome in what you described. I'd go for it as long as they are still fluffy and absorbant, with no bald spots. Cotton lasts forever!

I obviously cannot speak for someone else's diapers, but most of my diapers have been in use for 4.5 years, through two kids, and I would absolutely still consider them welll worthy of at least another child, probably more.  I've had a large stash and taken good care of them, but I really can't tell the difference between some I have that I've had for half the time vs. the ones that have been in constant use.
One plus here is that that's a decent-sized stash; not someone having 14 diapers on constant use for 5 years, since they'd be getting double the use.
