I know this is a little off topic, but I know there was a thread about mama cloth a while ago and people had lots of opinions, so I thought I'd ask... I just had my second baby a couple weeks ago and for the second time I'm reacting to my pads (using kotex at the moment). As you can imagine this is really uncomfortable. I'd really like to order some mama cloth, but I'm not even sure where to start. It would probably only be used postpartum. What do you use? How do you like them? Where did you get them? Is there anything in particular I should look for in a pad? (fabric, etc? ) I would prefer to order from somewhere in canada. TIA!!!! |

| I bought mine from an etsy store. They are light liners with snap wings. I use mine as backup for a Diva Cup on heavy days. For actual use as a pad you'd need something thicker. I suggest getting darker colors for obvious reasons. But do you want wings? Do you want a liner or a pad? Is it for menstral flow or post partum? Mine are called a "sport" version which I guess means they have a layer of stay dry stuff. I dunno, I'd think they all have something like that. |

| For a short term solution to alleviate the allergic reaction, perhaps you could cut up a prefold and lay it on top of your pads. I use a Diva Cup, which I learned about on this forum and absolutely love. I know you can't use that post-partum, though. Hope you're feeling better soon and congrats on the new LO! |

I switched to Lunapads a short time ago and LOOOOVE them! they are made in Vancouver. The spiffiest product they made are the panties with the liner built in. Anyways, I got them from their website (look on google, as I'm not sure I'm supposed to list that here). There's less bleeding and they are super easy to use and clean. It is far less icky than a dirty diaper, that's for sure. The people that work there can totally help with any questions you have. They even sell a post-partum kit. hope this helps! |

I also use Lunapads and love them. It's almost always just the liners that I use as backup for a Diva Cup but I do have one real pad that I use occasionally and really like as well. Fabulous quality, I've been using some of mine for over 6 years now and other than a few stains and some very mild pilling they still look new! I agree with others too, get as dark as color as possible to avoid stains.
That said, if you're using these only for post-partum I don't know if it's really worth it. The pads are great and all, but would be awfully expensive to use just for a few weeks unless you're planning at least a couple more babies in the future. If you really don't think you'll ever use them again I'd second a previous poster's suggestion of just lining your disposable pads with some kind of fabric layer.
Or maybe even just use some preemie prefolds or a folded cloth diaper liner? Not quite as fancy and would require more changing because it's not waterproof but it would work. Or you could go all out and make some cloth pads yourself. I can't offer much advice personally but I know there's lots of website out there that have instructions and/or patterns. Or maybe try a more natural disposable pad? You can get them at health food stores usually and they're usually unbleached cotton and have a lot less chemicals.
Or if you have some small sized disposable diapers ( newborn, size 1 or 2 at most) you could even try just using those. I've heard of some moms with an overstock of newborn sized diapers doing this and it worked well for them. Apparently the extra width compared to most menstrual pads is actually quite useful for post-partum. You might react to those as well so I wouldn't necessarily recomend buying a big pack just in case but if you have a couple lying around it might be worth a try.
Karen.

| Thanks for the feedback ladies. I think I'll look into the lunapads. We are planning to have at least a few more LO's so the pads would definitly get postpartum use, and if I had them around I would probably use them in between too. |

| I have used Swaddlebees momma pads....love them. I have also tried happy heinys...they are okay. I did not use them post partum though. I found them after the fact. But the long ones are REALLY long, and I am sure they would work great. I got them in a store in welland, ontario canada called peekaboo bottoms. they also have an on-line store as well. I absolutely LOVE the SB pads |

Hey 2girls! I am FROM Welland! Now living in Ottawa, but I was so excited to see Welland listed here!
I am pleased (though I find it a bit odd) that there is a diaper store in Welland. I really would not have thought downtown Welland would have the customers for such a market. I am so happy to learn otherwise! |
