Hello. My friend just bought me the part time OS package. The only thing is that she ordered it at 1 o'clock this morning. My question is, does the item ship out today or will it ship out on monday? i know that i seem a bit impatient but i really cannot wait to receive these diapers!

I don't work for ME but I'm guessing it's unlikely to ship out on a weekend. I don't think anyone works on weekends since their phone hours are listed as only Mon-Fri. For questions directly to ME staff I'd suggest phoning or emailing them directly as they don't check this board all that often.
I know the impatient feeling though, very understandable! LOL!

They definately will not be shipped out until Monday. I don't work for ME but I have worked for courier companies. If you are not paying an arm and leg for weekend delivery/service then it doesn't happen. Sorry to disappoint, but it will still be a couple days before you will receive. Let us know what you think.

yes that is dissapointing that they do not ship out on weekends. i cannot wait to put cloth next to my baby rather than these wreaking of chemicals, gelly, artificial, papery sposies. i posted about a year ago on these forums saying that we were going to do cding but at the last minute, my husband got cold feet and chickened out. a few updates. i said that my baby was a girl. i was too early in the pregnancy to find out. i have a son and he will be 24 weeks tomorrow. i was extremely slow at diapering at first but now i am relatively quick, not as quick as my husband though. he told me that if i go this route that i will have to take all aspects of the diapering. everything from changing them to washing them. that brings me to another question. i was wondering how to do the covers? we do not have a clothes line either and i do not want to use the dryer so i was wondering if i can spread the dipes in the sun to dry instead? i would ask my father, whom we are now living with, to put a clothes line out back but he says that the squirrels would eat it.

Monday is a holiday in Canada too! Sorry about the extra wait that I think you might experience!

Too bad ME offices aren't in Quebec, no holidays here tomorrow! If you're in the US I think orders are shipped from a US warehouse so you *might* be lucky and have them shipped tomorrow. Guess that depends if the order needs to be processed up here first or not... Wouldn't really matter all that much if they were shipped on a weekend or not because Canada Post doesn't work weekends and ME doesn't use courriers anymore (at least none of my orders from the last couple of years arrived by courrier like they did in previous years). They'll be there soon enough and in the meantime you could use safety pins and old towels if you're desperate to get out of disposables. Not the easiest route to do cloth but think how you'll appreciate ME's great diapers afterwards! LOL!

My husband was a bit hesitant about cding too, but he has come around. As I am a SAHM, I do the laundry but that is fine with me. Regarding cd's I have a mix of ME One size & Sandy's as well as some other brands of Pockets and AIO's. Even my husband thinks our colored MEOS are so cute.
For us, the ME's work great for naptime, bedtime, and when we are hanging at home. I do like having the pockets and AIO's when we are out, since they are a one stop process they are a bit faster; my son is a wiggle worm. I did buy a couple AIO's from a WAHM and had really cute outers put on them (soccer & antiques airplane print), my husband thought they were super cute.
I bet once your husband sees how cute they are and how much $ you save, he'll be more appreciative of cding! I wanted to add that we did disposables for the first 8 months and then switched - at first my dh exclusively used the pockets when he was home alone with our son. Then as he got more comfortable with cloth he also does the two part (ME) system. |

A clothesline is great (squirrels have never gone after mine!) but another, more portable idea, is to get a folding drying rack. You can put it outside, move it around to where the sun is, or put in inside, anywhere in the house, over a heat vent in the winter.

my husband and i were talking a few minutes ago and he still says that he does not think that i will like cding. he says that what costs we lose in buying these disposables, we will make up for in water and electricity usage. also he was saying that i will get sick of rincing the dipes in the toilet, the stinkiness of the cloth, getting poop all over my hands, lol that happens anyway when i change him because i do it entirely by feel, washing them, etc. also that suggestion of a drying rack is a very good idea. my mother actually suggested the same thing. she is the only one in the family who supports my decision to cd.

Your dh might want to actually sit down to calculate the cost of doing a load of laundry because there's just no way that what you'll be paying for in extra electricity and water will equal the cost of disposables. A load of laundry costs pennies in water, electricity and detergent so even if you figure $.50 per load (which I think is probably being really really generous) and have 3 loads per week, that's only $6 a month. Disposables easily cost 3 times that amount if not more. Now you do have to add the cost of the diapers but assuming you don't get addicted and what to try all kinds of different diapers just for fun (which does happen!), that cost will be paid for in 6-18 months (depending how many diapers you buy of course). Not to mention that they can then be used for free on subsequent children or sold to get a good portion back of what you paid.
As for the rest, cloth really isn't the mess and stink that most people think. They don't stink unless they're poopy of course and then disposables stink as much. In fact, in terms of stink you might find it's better overall because your garbage won't smell like poop & pee anymore from the disposables! They're also not really that messy either, though it's true that dunking isn't the most pleasant thing in the world. But you can get disposable liners or a diaper sprayer to help with that.
The nice part is that any issues you have you can come here to ask us about! You''ll find all the support and information you need here! And many (most??) of us also have dealt with unsupportive husband's or family so we can comiserate with that too.

well what i am going to do is ask my father whom we are living with what the electric bill is now, and once we get next months bill, i will ask him again. he told me if he does not see a very significant increase from washing the dipes that we will not have to pay him a bit for the electricity. as far as disposables stinking, man i know where u r coming from. every time i lift a bag of them out of the trashcan, i either hold my breath or turn my head depending on the savarity of the poop odor. can i actually use that trash can as a diaper pail as long as i scrub it out first? also i know that none of u have experience with this, but i checked my washer out and it has one of those spinny shields that is on the knob. i cannot pull the knob off to get the shield off and i cannot break it either. i need to be able to mark this washer with raised marks where each cycle is so that i can successfully wash my dipes on my own and i cannot do that when the thing around the knob spins. i need a surface on the knob that will not spin so that i can put the marking on it. my dh already put raised markings on each cycle, i just need a marking to indicate the arrow on the knob. i hope that i do not sound confusing. any suggestions for how to do this?

Would it work to put something like an adhesive dot on the arrow? Or a glob of nail polish so you could feel the texture of it?

I use a folding dryer rack which is good here b/c it is not always warm outside in Alberta. I just had to say though that Canada Post does work weekends because I received my shipment on a Saturday! Surprising, I know! I used to be afraid of washing the diapers but I'm over that now. Since I'm still breastfeeding, I don't even dunk my dipes, I just throw poopy diapers straight into my trash can turned diaper pail (I bought a couple of the mesh bags) and then toss the mesh bag of dirty diapers straight into the washer. I wash every night so the diapers have a chance to dry overnight and are usually dry by the next evening - I have bamboo so they take awhile to dry.
