XL AF cover leaving red marks (poetryravn)

I just got some toddlerease diapers and some xl AF cover. My son is about 31 lbs. The diapers fit perfect on the smallest setting and I'm in love. However, the AF covers even on the biggest thiegh settings are leaving red marks on him. They also seem really loose which makes it even more confusing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I like the thirsties wraps but he'll be outgrowing those soon. I'm going to try the mommy's touch wrap I have with them but I would like to find something cheaper wrap wise.

Having covers a bit loose can be normal and just fine--in fact, I find better performance that way than if I try to get them tight.  It's strange, though, that they've be leaving red marks when (it sounds like) you've been experimenting with different leg settings.  Although it's not common, there have been people on this forum before who have posted with similar questions, and when it can't be attributed to anything else the theory is that the child may be sensitive to the material used in the binding.
I guess the other thing I'd wonder about, though, is whether you think that the covers might be so very loose that they are moving a lot with him and possibly causing chafing because of that?  31 lbs is on the low side for the XL cover, and while the ME covers (and diapers) are pretty flexible on the weights, so much can depend on build.

My son has really sensitive skin & the binding would always leave red marks on him at first when they were new, even on the loosest setting. It seemed to go away, like it was something that needed to eventually wash out. Now he 's fine. I'd say we probably had them about a month until it finally stopped causing red marks. Nothing else changed except that they got washed alot. Hopefully this will be the case for you as well.

I wonder if they use a sizing or something?  Or if the binding soften a bit with some wear and washing?

You know it's funny that this just came up again(this has come up before in threads). I just switched out one of my son's XL covers that hadn't been used yet in his diaperbag with one of his older XL covers in our normal rotation. When he woke up this morning, I was greeted with bright red marks on his legs & waist from his XL cover.
I was flabbergasted. Figured I did something wrong.
Then this thread came up today. Reminded me about how they caused red marks at first, then went away.
Weird timing!
Good theory about sizing or softening after washes. I dunno.

Thanks everyone. I will say that after washing them with our special detergant the marks weren't that bad. He does have really sensitive skin so I'm guessing that was the problem. It does seem to bother me more them him so I think I'll just let him be
