hey all. this evening, little john, my dh and myself will be going to my MIL's this weekend. how will i transport wet and/or dirty dipes without stinking up our luggage or my dad's truck? i am thinking about rincing the dipes and hanging them on our fence to dry. this way, i can transport dry dipes and by the time that we get to my MIL's, have enough to do laundry as i do the dipes in the evening to avoid peak times in which the cost of electricity is highest. either that, or the wet ones i have so far, i will throw them in with the rest of the laundry and if he uses them again, throw them in with the rest of the dipes this evening at my MIL's.  please help!

Eventually I'd recomend maybe getting yourself some sort of wet bag for this purpose. ME sells some and so do lots of other cloth manufacturers (another popular brand is Bummis). You can get different sizes depending on your needs, some just enough to transport a couple diapers while out shopping to large ones big enough to fit inside a big diaper pail and hold 2-3 dozen diapers.

For now you can just use any old plastic bag or even bring your pail with you if it's a manageable size and you have room in the truck. Grocery bags, milk bags (if you live in the US you won't know what I mean, LOL!), bread bags, whatever as long as it's waterproof. You can tie the ends to help keep in the smell but unless you leave them for more than a couple of days the smell really shouldn't be bad at all. You can reopen the bag each time and put all the diapers together or even just put them in each their own individual bag and just open at wash time (individual bags may be good if you have a particularly messy poopy diaper).

I remember going on a road trip for 3 nights with my son still in diapers. Used cloth almost all the time and put them in my Bummis bag. We kept the bag closed as tightly as we could but they're only a drawstring so don't entirely seal (a plastic bag would actually seal better than this). Kept the bag in our hotel room and then in the car with us on the way back, never smelled a thing even with the lack of a complete seal.

Rinsing and drying will work but honestly I just don't think it's necessary. If I were leaving for a few days with a toddler I may rinse the nighttime diapers (toddler nighttime diapers can be pretty potent) just to be sure but I'd never bother with dayttime ones and I'd never bother drying them out.

Throwing them in with regular laundry is also fine, but honestly I just wouldn't worry about it. Just throw them in the pail or a bag and then wash when you get there.

hehe i know what you mean when you say milk bags haha. i read a while back that milk in canada is sold in bags. hmmmm strange... how on earth do you pour it from the bag and into a glass without spilling? i have had that happen quite a few times. and that was just pouring breastmilk from a storage bag into a bottle.

LOL! We have these open top milk pitchers to put the bag in. Holds the bag steady without squeezing it. Cut a little hole at the top and it pours out nicely. Some stores around here carry the plastic jugs and they're so heavy I wonder how children especially do not to drop or spill it.

i am picturing that and imagine that when u pour the pitchure, the bag would slip out or something. yeah, i hate the gallon jugs, i would always hate carrying those as a child. still do. it is sooo heavy!  sorry OT lol.

If you practically turn it upside down, then yeah it would fall out. But really all your doing is tilting it a little to get the milk out, the weight of the bag and the pressure against the inside of the pitcher keeps it in there. Sometimes at the end of a bag you have to really turn it almost over and then every so often the bag starts slipping out but by then there's nothing (or almost nothing) left to spill anyway.
