| hi all. sorry for the strange topic name but i need help with this. my lo pooped 4 times yesterday and the last poop that he had of the day was diarrhea. my dh let him finish pooping while he fed him and when i went to change the dipe, he said that my son's anal opening was beet red and to put some desitin on it. he said i might have wiped too hard. he also blames it on the cloth diapers because he says that they do not pull sweat and urine away from the skin. |

*sigh* sounds like your DH is always ready to blame everything on you or CDs...
When my son has diarrhea, he always ends up with a rash. It just happened to us when he got sick while camping, and we were using disposables. I would definitely make sure he gets completely dry after a change and put some cream on his bum, but desitin is not recommended as it can easily build up. If that's the cream you want to use, you can temporarily use disposable liners in order to protect your diapers.
If you are concerned about pulling wetness away from the skin, you can buy some cheap polyester fleece and cut it to the shape you want to make cheap liners. They let urine through and dry instantly, therefore keeping the skin dry. It's cheap (you can buy whatever ugly color is on sale, who cares) and you don't need to sew because fleece doesn't unravel. Tons of mamas do that as a stay-dry liner in their CDs. It would also protect your dipes from desitin (they can buildup, but are cheap to replace if need be).
I doubt the wiping is to blame. If you can give your baby some diaper-free time, it would also help the rash, but it can be harder with mobile babies or if he has diarrhea.
Good luck, and just hold on tight, someday your DH may come around! |

| the fleace thing is a good idea. also i just tried an experiment because i have one disposable left. i tried putting it on him and he wants nothing to do with it. he was kicking it away. so when the time comes if we ever need them, i dont know what i will do. |

Well, some people never use disposables, they just make sure there will be a washing machine wherever they go and take their CDs with them. You'll find something that works for you, don't worry about it! You have enough on your plate as it is, take one day at a time!
I forgot to mention that ME makes stay-dry liners that work pretty much like the fleece liner, except that they're more expensive. We bought them because at the time we needed them, we were in no shape to go buy fleece and cut it... But most people jut use the fleece. The stay-dry liners are thinner and maybe a bit less warm than the fleece, but I never really heard any complaints about babies being too warm from the fleece on their bum. |

| My thought is that the red mark is probably from somethng in the poop - perhaps it was a bit more acidic than normal. Probably would have happened in any diaper. Whenever my son eats blueberries it stains his little bottom for about a day and then fades away. I would just try to change his diaper as soon as he has a bm. |

| talk about having alot on my plate. both my dh and i have a really bad upper respiratory infection. so it has not exactly been a picnic dealing with the cds for these last 2 days. my dh actually changed one last night for me. took him a long time to figure out the snaps, but he got there in the end. |

Sorry to hear about that - hopefully you get better soon!
You can always remind your DH that if he changed diapers more often, he would get more used to it and wouldn't fumble with the snaps anymore :-) |

| lol so true. my poor ds has a fever now as well. 100.9 f. i think he is a bit dehydrated as well because he has had only 2 wets, and 1 wet and dirty so far. it was just one little poop that i was able to plop in the toilet and scrub the dipe just a little bit, not like he usually does. sigh... i just do not get this because he has been nursing for hours at a time today. |

|
| Could he have caught your respiratory infection? Or it could just be a virus... One thing is for sure: the fever cannot be blamed on the cloth diapers! Keep nursing, that's the best thing to keep him hydrated. Hopefully he'll get better soon. |

| we think that he did catch it because when i changed his dipe, david checked his temp and it was 101.3. poor lo was screaming the whole time and the only time i had heard him scream like that was from the redness on his butt. oh yeah... i think david is ok with the diapering now because after he checked little man's temp, he did up the dipe and cover without a word. |

I just want to second (or third?) that a rash right at the anus is usually caused by the contents of the poop, usually something acidic like tomatoes or other fruits. Diarrhea is very caustic, and my son tended to react a bit when he was sick, too, somehow from the draining mucus, or??? I hope your little boy gets over this quickly; they bounce right back, but it's hard on mom to have a sick baby. |

| my son is coughing quite a bit this morning but i think we all are finally getting over this. he has not had diarrhea since day before yesterday.i think that my fever finally broke. i know that my husband's did and my son feels normal. |
