question rikki-wrap or air-flow covers? L or XL? (faithloren)

hi, i'm just wondering.... what's better the rikki-wrap covers or the airflow covers?  a friend just gave me a whole bunch of the one-size snap diapers, but i need to buy the covers.  also i have an 18 month old son who is almost 32 lbs, so i'm wondering if the XL would be too big (i think it says 35 lb - 45 lbs)

I use AF and they are pouffy but great! Rikki's fit snugger and have Velcro instead of snaps. My son wears an XL at night while stuffed with 3 liners in a toddle-ease diaper & he weighs about 30lbs right now. He can wear an AF XL cover during the day over a Sandy or an OS but it's quite puffy. It smooshes down just fine though. Better big than too small. Never tried a Rikki. My boys dislike Velcro.

Personally, I prefer the AFs, for two reasons.  The main one was that when my tubby DS#1 wore Rikkis, if I didn't have the velcro adjusted perfectly, it would rub his stomach.  The second is that as he got over 30 lbs, it got harder to fit a L Sandys with liner into the L Rikki at night.  DH also didn't like the variability of velcro--he just likes knowing which snaps to use, done!
That being said, it's completely personal preference, as they are both stellar covers.
I've never used the XL in either, as DS #1 PTed just as he was pushing the limits on the diapers and covers, and DS#2 is tiny.  I would guess that the XL Rikki would fit a bit tidier than the XL AF at 30 lbs, esp. over an OS rather than Sandys or ToddleEase (they are bulkier).
ME will let you mix up covers for the cover special; I'd guess that they would let you get both different sizes and different styles if you called them (and they have great customer service).  If you got a mix, you could try them on over a fresh diaper (and maybe a fresh night-sized diaper) to see what you think, and then exchange for the kind you want to get.  That's a bit of extra postage, but would let you make a truly informed decision.  I'd call them to double-check that that would be an okay thing to do, but I would think that as long as the covers are just tried on, not used or washed, they would be fine with it.

My son is 2 and I would guess about 30 pounds (was 27 pounds at 18 months, our last official weigh-in), and he can still wear M/L AF covers (although they are getting quite tight and short on the rise), but fits the L better. We use XL at night with 3 boosters and there's plenty of room. So I guess the XL would most likely work fine for you, but would be more bulky than strictly necessary. But you're likely to need them if your son is that young and you need extra absorbency at night. You may want to buy a few of each.
