So here's my dilemna - I like the thought of using cloth when I'm in town because sposies regularly leak on me. BUT I have two in diapers, and I live an hour outside of town, meaning that my town trips don't happen often, but when they do it's a FULL day in town. That's a lot of diapers to be haulling around all day. Any recommendations on a diaper that works great, but doesn't take up too much room? I was thinking of maybe investing in some AIO's for this purpose (then I don't have to worry about covers if they get leaked on), but also like the thought of a OS diaper that I could use on both boys (14 lbs and 22 lbs)... Any suggestions on what works well for you? TIA

| I haven't used the AIO diapers, but I suspect it would be less bulky to carry a few OS diapers and a spare cover in each size for your 2 little ones. We have only one in diapers and rarely leave for more than half a day, but we usually carry 2 or 3 OS and a spare cover, and we rarely have to change covers, but when we do, never more than once... Unless we're really, really out of luck, and then we have an emergency disposable diaper in the bag for those unlucky days, as it doesn't take much space anyway. |

hmmm. I was kinda thinking that might be the case. I actually just bought a few OS to try out for a completely different reason, but they might become my diaperbag stash...Joanna Mom to DS#1 08-03-07 and DS#2 05-31-09 |

| I really like the fact that the OS can be used on different kids, so you can probably be covered with fewer diapers. |

Ya, that makes sense. Which of the OS were your preferred? Bamboo, cotton or organic?

I have only bamboo; they are softer and trimmer, so would take less space in your diaper bag, but they take longer to dry if that's an issue. For me, even if I dry them in the drier, they are usually still damp when they come out and need to be hung up overnight. There have been questions about the longevity of bamboo diapers as they haven't been out for very long, so it's still an unknown, and some people have had issues with the first batches. To my knowledge, though, Mother-Ease was more than willing to deal with people's issues and my diapers are more than a year old, now, and going strong.
Cotton has proven its longevity and value for sure, ME guarantees all of its diapers for one child from birth to potty-training, but many people have used them for 2 or 3 children without a problem. Bamboo and, I think (can't find it on the Web site), regular cotton have some polyester in the fabric for strength. Organic cotton does not, which can be good for kids with sensitivity to polyester, but it may make them less durable.
Hope that helps! |
