I can't find the answer, but I know they said they were PVC-free (or else we wouldn't have bought them). I seem to remember they are polypropylene, which in nowadays knowledge is the safest plastic available.   Re: Covers... A lot of people love wool and get very good results with it, although I have never dared try. There is a little more involved in terms of caring for it, and it's not as waterproof (read: foolproof) as the ME covers are. Nothing beats them for preventing leaks!
