Anyone skipped sizes on the AF cover going from xs to m?

I've read that the s can be too big for a newborn.  I'm expecting a 6-7 lber.  I plan on using the xs AF over newborn prefolds.  What do you think my chances are to skip the s size (weight range is exact same as xs) and go straight to m?

It is fairly common for people to skip a size somewhere along the line, although which size exactly seems to vary from person to person depending on what diaper they're using and the size/shape of their baby. It's definetly usually one of the smaller sizes, usually small, medium or medium-large... ME covers are pretty flexible in their sizing so that even if a cover is bigger than it really needs to be, you can usually just make do and you won't have any real problems like leaks or anything (it just might look a little baggy and big).

The size range on the x-small and small may be the same but they are not the same size at all. The small is made bigger to accomodate the bulk of the One-Size diaper on a newborn while the x-small is made only for prefolds or newborn Sandy's.

I used both the xsm and the sm, and my observation was that the biggest diference is the rise. But having said that the med is going to be pretty huge if you skip the smalls. If anything I would tend to skip the xsms. I only had 2 so I used them when they were clean and the smalls the rest of the time right from the beginning and it worked fine.

If you are thinking about what to get in a big order, I'd think about ordering the XS and M, and if, when it is time to make the jump, if the M is just too big, then you could always order some S.  You'd be out a little more in shipping, but then you wouldn't be getting something you might not need.
