  Long nights/Wet Mornings (kmwey)

My DS is almost 2 months old and we have been blessed with a sleeper (8 hours straight for more than 2 weeks) but it seems he is also a heavy wetter.  His MEOS are completely saturated each morning (and sometimes he is wet all the way up his back).  I have tried using a doubler and that has come out soaked too.  Has anyone one else had so much wetness from such a little guy?  Is this is a case of This Too Shall Pass or is he destined to get wetter as he gets bigger?

Hello,

I wasn't blessed with your problem (my son didn't sleep for that long until he was a year old), but I read on the forum a tip that may help you... Although I started doing that when my son was much older, so I don't know if it would work for you. If the diaper is saturated, obviously, you need more absorbency, but at 2 months old, it may be hard to add 2 doublers in a one-size diaper. What may work is adding a doubler outside of the diaper. The cover holds it in place just fine, but that way it doesn't have to be in between the legs, you can just fold it and place it where your son needs it the most. It may or may not help, but it might be worth a try.

Good luck!

When you add the liner, do you get leaks then as well? It's fairly normal for both the liner and diaper to be soaked in the morning but it shouldn't leak though. If it's just that the diaper is really soaked, then I wouldn't worry about it. He may (or may not) wet more as he gets older but then he'll also be bigger so he'll be able to handle adding a second (or even a third) liner.

Also, is it possible that perhaps the liners haven't been prewashed enough? It just occured to me that since this is probably the first time you're using the liners that they may still need a little prewashing. They'll 'work' after 1-2 hot washes, but don't reach peak absorbancy till they've been washed more like 4-6 times.

Also make sure you're doing all the standard checks before bedtime, making sure the diaper and tags are all tucked in. Also make sure that pjs and/or diaper shirts aren't too tight and possibly creeping inside the diaper during the night.

HTH,
Karen.

I was getting leaks with the liner too... I will try washing them a fewmore times.  Thanks.  Also, I noticed last night he had a really big pee just before I put him to bed (after I got him all settled in a night time diaper etc) and he was relatively dry this morning.  Perhaps this was happening before and I mistook the crying for tiredness.  I will be double checking for wetness as I put him to bed from now on.

Thanks for the advice.

I also have  a heavy wetting 2 month old little guy...I use the MEOS stay dry with a doubler, and I just started using a wwwwooondderful new cover!! It is a fleece one that has gotten excellent reviews on diaperpin.com.   It is a 'Dancing Bears' fleece cover--nightime weight. Great coverage, no no leaks, and actually comfy!! Plus, my LO has some very chunky thighs, and this doesn't leave red marks, etc. HTH, Jo

We use 2 liners at night and rarely have a leak.  Its bulky but it works!
