  xsm Sandies or onesize? (hedijo)

I'm due in a few weeks and I just bought a set of one-size.  Should I consider buying some xsm Sandies or will the one size work from birth?  We think the baby will be small to average, 6 - 7 pounds at birth.  We don't want to spend extra money on something that may only need to be used for a short while.

Have you considered prefolds with a snappi and small Airflow covers?  I found that to be a wonderful (and inexpensive) way to cloth diaper for the first few months.  I find the MEOS too big for my liking until my little ones are at least 12 pounds.  They work fine, but are bulky.

I used OS and S Sandys (with S AFs) from 6.5 lbs without leaks on my scrawnie little preemie.  They look big and don't fit terribly snugly, but they don't need to.  I was so sick of leaks with disposables that I figured it was worth trying the OS that early, and it worked great.  That was with my second, so the bulk didn't bother me.  For most babies, OS work just fine for a newborn, but it's the bulk that causes some people to prefer a trimmer option, like the XS Sandys or the prefolds/snappi option.  I'm not criticizing that choice at all, just saying it's usually about preference, not performance.
If you look into prefolds, make sure you look at quality ones (think they're called diaper service quality often?), probably only available online or a diaper store--not the Gerber prefolds at Target/Walmart, since those are great burp cloths, but from what I've gathered, not the greatest diapers.

I bought 24 O/S and 12 xs Sandys and regretted the XS... They worked great, but lasted only 2 months on my boy (7 pounds at birth and he grew rapidly!). The OS worked just fine straight from birth, although the first few times I thought it looked so ridiculously big on him I must have been doing something wrong. But I never had any leak. Only downsides were that smaller outfits would not fit with the OS diaper on, and I ended up having to buy some more OS after I retired the XS because he was still using so many and they were bamboo so took longer to dry.

That said, many love the XS for trimness and cute outfits. But if money is tight, skip them!

This is helpful, as I am asking myself the same question.  I was given 4 ex-small Sandies, so I will at least have those. Mama to Rosy-5, Gracie-4, Lizzie-2, Andy-1, and one one the way. My dream is to replace my whole diaper stash with Mother-Ease Diapers!

I love my xsm Sandy's but as pp have said - if money is tight you can definitely skip them. I just love that they are so much trimmer on a tiny newborn. I'm picky about things like that. lol. Oh and if you aren't used to Cd's on a newborn it's not as hard to wrap your mind around a tiny diaper than it is a OS if that makes sense. Congrats on your new LO
