my dh and i decided to make the switch to cloth wipes. when we were out the other day, we bought some simple soft wash cloths that will serve that purpose. we bought 12 of them. is that enough to have? also we bought some soap in which to wash them between uses. is it ok to just put a tiny bit in a wipes warmer and make a kind of solution out of it? it is palm olive dish soap, aroma therapy scent. will the soap be rough on his skin?

Personally, I like to have more wipes so I can be generous in their use, as one major poop can use several cloths easily.  I use the cheapest baby washcloths around, something like 4 for $1.  I just throw them into the diaper pail and wash with the diapers.  Then I keep a pile of them (I quarter-fold them because I think that's a nice size with which to approach the clean up) on the changing table and a plastic tub with a small amount of water in it.  When I was changing poopy diapers regularly, I would put a day's worth of wipes into the water at a time, but since it's rare now I just wet wipes as needed.

yeah we bought el cheapo ones as well. i think we spent $6 for the 12 that we purchased. i was thinking about washing them between poopy uses, as well as washing them once a week with the diapers which i do twice a week. speaking of, i need to transfer them into the dryer real quick.
i was thinking of just rincing the wipes between wet incidents. i was thinking of just dipping them into a small amount of dish soap, rincing them so that the nice scent lingers behind, and then lightly wringing them so that some of the water and scent remain.

Personally I say just buy one or two more dozen and just wash them with diapers. Not worth the trouble of washing them seperatly...

As for the dish soap, I'd be leary of using that on skin. If your little was older and/or had really tough skin it might be ok, but from what I remember he's got kind of sensitive skin doesn't he? I would think dish soap would be very drying even if there's only a little left behind.

I'd recomend something more along the lines of baby body wash or shampoo. You can also look up previous posts to see what recipes others use or even just google it. You can also purchase various mixes and such for using with cloth wipes. Nothing wrong with plain water either, especially for just pee you really don't need anything soapy... Poopy diapers it's sometimes nice to have that extra cleaning ability and scent but I'd go really easy with a baby with sensitive skin.

Karen.

I have used baby shampoo with a bit of baby oil in the past.  However, I find plain water works just fine too.  I would be very careful about using liquid dish soap on my baby's bottom.  If you really want a scent, there are some nice smelling baby washes or shampoos that would be much less harsh on your little one's skin.

I would also second Karen's idea to buy a couple dozen more and just wash them with the diapers.  I love having lots of cloth wipes on hand and just throwing them into the diaper pail... super easy -- way easier than disposible for sure.
