hey all. i was wondering what to do in this situation that had just arisen about 15 minutes ago. i had put my son to sleep then put all of his fluff accept the one that he was wearing, in the washer to be cleaned. unfortunately he woke up a few minutes later and wet the one that he had on. the bad news? all of the covers were in the wash as well! what can i do in these kinds of situations? i pulled a damp cover from the dryer about 5 minutes ago because david was complaining about the wetness from our son's diaper seaping through the towel that i had put over his lap. he was asking me to run in the next room and get a disposable. of coarse, i flat out refused and just grabbed a damp cover from the dryer.  i do not want to use disposables unless there is  a real need of them.

Lots of options... None as convenient as a real diaper but it's just for an hour or two... If the towel you have on your lap gets wet, just change it (layer a large towel by folding it or use several small towels to prevent a real mess). If you had a small pair of underwear you could use it as a 'cover' of sorts (not waterproof obviously but at least it'll hold the towel up). If baby is sleeping or small enough that he's not very mobile you could just lay a couple towels under his bum (and for boys if he's facing upwards I'd also place one over his crotch to avoid a 'fountain'). You could also just try to keep him in a part of the house that would be easy to clean (tiles for example) and just have a towel handy... Could be a good time to entertain baby in a bath too. Or if it's warm outside (and if it is where you are I'm insanely jealous!!) then you could go outside on the grass (kiddie pool or sprinkler perhaps??).

oh i am in florida and i hate it with a passion. we will be in the middle of a coldfront so it will not be so bad. way too hot and humid here. i feel extremely sad and sorry for babies who are in plastic diapers in the hot sticky florida weather. he is actualy extremely mobile so lying him on his back will not work. entertaining him in a bath is a good idea. i usually take him into the tub with me but lately i have found out that he loves to play in the sink when i fill it with water. i did it that way a few days ago because i had a spraihned wrist and did not feel like fighting with him to get him clean in the tub.  i am wondering if i could get a small stash of cheap gerber prefolds with some cheap covers to use while i am waiting for his good diapers to get clean. i have not come across them at walmart though even though people say that they are sold there. i think i am the only one in this whole apartment complex who uses cloth on her baby.  i usually hear babies crying to have their diapers changed so much at this complex that it is not even funny. yeah, i think i would cry if i had a swolen, ready-to-burst mass of chemicals and paper between my legs too.

I'd take hot and humid right now! Where I am it's about -4F and it's so dry the skin on my hands is cracking! And this is only the beginning!

How many diapers do you have in your rotation?  Do you need to maybe purchase more or have a couple AIO's on hand?  Sometimes I have diapers in the wash and line drying (or I haven't brought them up from the dryer rack yet) so I have some AIO's in the change table too.

oooh that is cold! i would rather it be in the lower 30's, high 20's. i love the cold weather. hate the driness of the air  and the bite of it in my lungs due to my asthma though.  but on the other hand, i absolutely hate it being 98 or 102 degrees and extremely humid. i remember when all the snowbirds came down here last winter expecting warm, sunny florida, what they got was cold frost-and ice covered florida. that was kind of funny. trust me, being a tourist down here is one thing. living here in the constant heat and humidity and stickiness is quite another. but yeah, is there a store where i can purchase prefolds and cheap covers for diapering emergencies such as the one that we had last night?

ETA
i have 25 dipes and 6 covers in my rotation. 2 of my diaper liners got lost though, so now i only have 6 of them instead of 8. all of his covers were dirty either from poop smells, urine smells, or covered in food. now that we have a tiny bit more money sent from relatives for christmas, i can probably buy a small back-up stash for wash time. my friend actually bought me my whole stash. but btw, i can see how cloth saves money. my dh is very cool with the cloth now. he said to me the other day, if we still had him in disposables, we would not be able to get by and still have a bit of leftover money at the end of each month to put towards savings for a house.

I recently bought a small stash - 4- of pretty well loved Sandy's as backups, emergencies, etc. I was able to pick them up for $2 each on the buy and sell forum. They are not as fluffy as his others, but they do the job in a pinch. Just a thought.

I have 8 prefolds and a snappi for those situations... prefolds are about $3 each and so is a snappi.  The prefolds also make excellent change pads!

adn I have so many covers -- I think about 12?!?!?! Some are not quite the right size and others are 7 years old, but they are work just fine.

I hate using disposible too (although I do use one on my little one at night).

wow you use disposables at night? when i got my stash, i jumped straight into full-time cloth diapering. why do you use the disposables at night may i ask? when i had my son in them the first 5 months of his life, every morning when he would wake up, the thing would be so swollen  and heavy that i had to be careful when taking it off of him or else the thing would split. but he is becoming a heavier wetter than he usually is. he soaked 2 night diapers w/o boosters front to back and even the wing portions. and just a few minutes ago i found him in a completely saturated diaper. i had just changed him like an hour before that. do you use the eco friendly gell free disposables?
