question diaper pales (mommahag)

Having trouble keeping the "stinky" in the diaper pale to a minimum.  A friend said she had heard about a "wet pale" vs dry pales.  She always used a dry pale, which is what I have been using & didn't know anything about the wet pales.  Any insight?  Suggestions?

Most cloth diaper users use a dry pail nowadays. Wet pails can be a drowning hazard for a toddler (you have to make sure the lid locks), and wet diapers are harder to load in a washing machine. Also, some people get build up when they put detergent in the wet pail. But some people claim it helps keep diapers clean and smell-free.

But there may be a way to make things better without moving to a wet pail. Do you rinse overnight pee diapers? When babies get older, drink less, pee more and sleep longer, the overnight diaper can be very overwhelming. If I don't rinse it, it can make the paint peel from the walls. I'm sure other people will have other suggestions, too...

Good luck!

I agree, rinsing out the night-time and really wet diapers will help.  You can also sprinkle baking soda over the diapers once a day, or put a few drops of tea tree oil (or other essential oil you like) on a wash cloth and put it in the bottom of the pail.  Hope that helps!

Have you considered a diaper sprayer? I have found it has really kept the toddler urine smell down, and my diapers are also much less prone to staining now We consider it the best of both worlds. Still a dry pail, but the diapers are rinsed going into the pail (and wrung out).
Hth!

Thanks!  I have a sprayer, but have only been using it on the dirty diapers, not the wet ones.  Had thought about baking soda, but haven't tried it yet.  The oil is a good idea too.
Sorry I'm a terrible speller!! (pail!)
I really appreciate your grace-filled responses!
