| Hello there. My little one has just outgrown her small bamboo sandys and I have a couple questions for other parents out there. I have only ever used the bamboo so have no experience with cotton at all. Does anyone know what the differences are? Are bamboo better than cotton? I am also wondering if I should buy the MEOS or just stick with the sandys. My LO has very runny BMs and my Sandys have done wonderfully with containing the mess. We've never had a leak with them. Are the MEOS just as good as containing messes as the sandys? I also like the loose fit of the sandys - they seem to allow more air circulation. How do the MEOS fit? Sorry for so many questions. I just don't want to make a purchase and find out that they won't work for us. |

Ok, first bamboo vs cotton. There isn't one that's clearly 'better' than the other, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Bamboo is softer and more absorbant (so bamboo diapers can be trimmer while still providing the same absorbancy) but then they're also more expensive, take longer to dry and may have longevity issues. Bamboo may or may not be more eco-friendly (rather a complex issues with bamboo certainly a more eco-friendly plant as it grows very quickly with no use of pesticides but then it has to be imported from half-way across the world and requires heavy chemical processing to be made into a fiber).
I think in your situation you've lost a lot of the advantages of the One-Size. The biggest advantage is that it can be worn from birth to potty training so a parent theoretically only has to buy one set of diapers. But at this point you'd only have to buy the lg Sandy's to be set till potty training. Even if you had more babies, you could use the small Sandy's you already have... The Sandy's would likely even last a little longer since they tend to fit a little a little bigger than the One-Size (even though they're technically listed to the same max weight). Personally I've found the Sandy's to have a snugger elastic at the legs and therefore keep runny messes inside better than the One-Size. All that said, the One-Size would be trimmer at this stage (since it wouldn't need to be folded over and the One-Size have one or two less layers). This could be a disdavantage though in that the One-Size are slightly less absorbant so for some toddlers this means the need for a liner in each diaper (hence losing the trim advantage). The One-Size would also dry faster than the Sandy's because of the fewer layers...
HTH, Karen.

| I agree with all the info of the previous post about the bamboo diapers. I have both the cotton OS and Sandy's Bamboo diapers. I use the OS during the day at home, and the Sandy's bamboo for long trips out and overnight. I have other brands of fitteds-organic cotton, hemp, and other bamboos also-I only ever use the Sandy's overnight. They hold toddler wetness the best and are the softest the longest. Also, I like the adjustable snap at the leg-it held in BF and messy poo better for him then the OS, and I always need an extra liner with the OS. |

I've used mostly OS, with some S and L Sandys (cotton). As Karen said, the real advantage of the OS is that it can be used across the baby spectrum, so I loved having mostly OS when I had two in diapers, as it provided more flexibility and less keeping track of which size diaper was clean. That being said, you already have the S, so I'm not sure how much advantage you'd see from going to an OS stash. The negative thing I could say about Sandys is that my DS#1 was so chunky that the difference in trimness between the L Sandys and the OS could determine whether a pair of pants would fit or not. I doubt it would be that big of a deal for most kids, though, and if trimness is a real concern, the bamboo is trimmer than cotton. If your LO is prone to runny poops, the Sandys would likely do a better job with that. My DS#2 went through a phase of that last summer, and while poop never got past the cover, there were a few times that it did get from the OS onto the cover. He's a very skinny guy, and the legs just didn't snug up a lot. Usually not an issue at all, but when it is, it is! Sandys can get a more customized fit that way. For materials, I have one bamboo OS, and while it's soft, it bugs me that it takes so much longer than the cotton ones to dry (I line dry, so it's very obvious when the cotton OS are all dry and the bamboo is still damp). So for me I think I would stick to cotton if I were ordering again, but I'm probably a minority in getting so bugged about the dry time. :-) |

You can always add a liner to the OS, but my son is too heavy of a wetter for the OS. He wears Sandy's and they work fine but he will pee out of an OS without a liner in just one peeing. Something to keep in mind, extra liners possibly needed with OS. The large Sandy's have a higher absorbancy than the OS. If I were you, I would order just 1 MEOS to try and see if you like. The OS is so different in so many ways from the Sandy. Most people prefer one over the other naturally. You may love it or you might not. At least you'd have one to try before you sink a decent amount of money to it. |

| Thank you all so much for sharing your tips and experience with me. I think I will probably just stick with the Sandys. I have had good luck with them and I guess if something works don't mess with it. |

The only thing that Karen didn't add is that I think bamboo is naturally antibacterial. I have bamboo OS which I love. I do have some all-in-ones which I believe are cotton and yes, the bamboo takes longer to dry than the AIOs! I just make sure I wash at night and hang dry them after they're finished washing and they are generally dry by the next night. Very very few leaks with the MEOS as well. |

| If you're curious about the MEOS I'd give one a try. You might even be able to snag a used one on the other forum or on FSOT to see if you like it. Another thing I wanted to add is that if you already have liners from your small sandys you can use them for the large sandys as well. I bought only small liners and they work great in the large sandys, another way to save some money. My daughter is 2 1/2 and can fit into both the sandys and the MEOS. The waist on the MEOS is not as wide as the large sandys, so the sandys will fit a bit longer, but I actually prefer the slightly higher rise of the MEOS. but I prefer the sandys for the easy pull down and up in case my daughter wants to use the toilet at night. So I'm glad I have both |

| Lots of initials on this thread! :-) I'm new and am having trouble figuring out all the acronyms. Is there a list somewhere? I've figured out through several posts that AIO is all-in-one, and that ISO is "in search of", but I'm lost on MEOS and FSOT and a few others. Would someone be willing to help me out? :-) Thanks, and sorry for being such a newbie. |

| You're right, loads of acronyms around here. I remember having to ask a friend what on earth LOL meant. There's probably a list somewhere, but MEOS is just Mother Ease One Size (often just OS) and FSOT is For Sale or Trade (some diaper sites have a FSOT section). Other common ones around here are AF for AirFlow [cover] and the DS, DD, DH variety, Dear Son, Husband, Daughter, etc. |
