OT: Anyone here have experience with cloth menstrual pads? (Fire Dancer)

So anyway, yesterday when i started my period, i used my cloth menstrual pads for the first time. so so much more comfortable than sposies. no hot sweaty feeling or rashes and best of all, no cramps whatsoever.  ever since giving birth to my son last february, my cramps were to the point of forcing me to lie in bed curled up for the first day when i was in the sposies.

anyway... i am having a bit of a problem with my organic pads. i am using the sorella-luna pads
http://sorella-luna.com,
and when i took them out of the dryer, they were wrinkled. when i first got them, they were totally flat, now the pad looks wavy from front to back. is it ok to iron these? i ironed them briefly because i was afraid of them getting burned, but they still look wavy, but not as much as before. any advice on this matter? the website i do not think has any care instructions for these.

My cloth pads never did that (Lunapads) but I suspect it's just because they shrank in the first wash. Pretty normal for 100% cotton to shrink the first few washes. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's causing you discomfort. If it's really warped the pad I would consider emailing the maker about it.

Glad your first experience went well with them!

Karen.

well i paid $36 for a 6 pack of  heavy flow overnight postpartom pads so i would expect good quality.   i know that these are not the most expensive organic pads on the market as well.  they are pretty cheap considering lunapads are way out of my price range.

i might email the maker about it if it happens again. the pads are not causing any discomfort, but i want them to last, and i feel that if i keep ironing them to make them flat again, they will wear out quicker. they take a very long time to dry as well which i do not understand y. i washed them with the diapers and after a cycle on high, the diapers are dry and the pads are still damp. they are a one-piece system. these pads do not contain any waterproofing in them either. this is fine because i wore one overnight without it leaking on the bed, like what usually happens with ssposies, or leaking through.  i am just concerned about the pads warping after going through the dryer.

Hmm, if they're a one piece system, made for postpartum/heavy flow and have no waterproofing I'd expect that they're fairly thick. You'd figure that diapers would take longer but then the diapers aren't 100% cotton and it might be a fabric difference (terry cloth vs a more flannel type of cotton), I don't know??

Is it really necessary to iron them? I really don't know cause I haven't seen them but maybe you could use them without ironing? Do they need to lay completly flat, I mean, they'll be curved when you're using them anyway, maybe it would be ok?? Or maybe line dry them instead (like laying flat on a surface), maybe the movement/higher heat of the dryer isn't helping. What's really vulnerable to high heat would be things like plastic snaps, elastic, polyester and PUL, but it sounds like at most you'd have just the snaps to worry about, so at least that's a good thing.

Either way though, I'd definetly email the manufacturer. They should be aware that this is happening and if it's shrinking that can easily be prevented by some prewashing before sewing...

Karen.

in my opinion, i thought they would be the equivalence of the thickness of a cotex pad, but they are not.  they are thinner than i expected. basically they do not feel like u have a diaper between your legs like with the thicker sposies.  they are 9 layers of i think terrycloth. u can look on the site. i included the link in my original post.  i dont think they have to be completely flat. i am just concerned about the inner layers of the pad bunching or something. i got one pad that was a bit defective as far as the inside layers went, the pad is thicker then in the middle, i felt a fold in the material and the pad got a bit thinner from there, but it did not effect the pad's performance.  this defect was not found in my other pads. i did notice, however, that the pads are not one uniform length. i think it is because they are hand sewn.
