i am not sure what to make of this, but we have gone through 3 diapers in 3 minutes. he pees, waits until i have the dry diaper on, then pees again. i just checked this diaper that i put on him 10 minutes ago and this one is wet as well. if i did not know better,i would think that he is deliberately holding his urine until i get the dry diaper on, then letting it loose. what should i do in these sorts of matters? i finally just said the heck with it and left this wet diaper on him because i am sick of changing them just to have him wet a new one immediately after i get it on him. this is a stay dry diaper by the way. he is really testing my patience with him at the moment. he needs to take a nap and quit playing these games or whatever he is doing. is this a sign that he might be getting ready to want to use the toilet even though he is just on the threshold of getting ready to walk? he has not made any attempts to takethese diapers off although he has practically ripped disposables off of himself. |

LOL! Sorry, I know I shouldn't laugh but it just brought back memories of my own first baby. You should count yourself lucky that he waits till you've got a new diaper on to do this, my first dd used to wait till I'd just gotten her diaper OFF and then she'd just let it all go!! This often included the ever-fun jet propelled poop that would come flying at me as I opened the diaper!! I always changed her on a twin bed in her bedroom (I'd sit cross-legged in front of her) and I finally just learned to lay her on 2-3 waterproof (and absorbant) pads and then lay another 1-2 across my lap!! Those waterproof pads were my best friends for months and I had a TON of them!! I remember being in the shower once while dh changed her and him coming into the bathroom with poop all over his pants and shirt! LOL!
Sorry, can`t offer any helpful advice. It could be some sort of sign or it could just be one of those kid things that`s annoying at the time and then ends up being a funny story you can tell his first girlfriend! LOL!

| oh hhe actually used to do the same thing with disposables so i took that as a sign that he hated them with a passion. no sooner than i would start putting the new one on, he would poop nice bf poop. and oh my god, the blowouts... what a nightmare! |

Actually, I have no help to offer either since I haven't experienced this at all, but wanted to say that while it does mean extra laundry, at least you're not filling a landfill with 3 diapers from such a short period of time! I have a friend who CD's who says that's exactly when she's really glad she CD's - when she puts on a fresh dipe and its soiled right away. And with my DS, if he's in a disposable I tend to leave it on longer to get its full "use". Take care! |

yep that is exactly what is happening. i just took him out of a stay dry dipe that was soaked through from front to back. i know those are supposed to keep the skin dry, but it failed to do so, perhaps because the diaper was soaked to capacity? he has been drinking alot of liquids today. no sooner than i get the fresh one on, that he dribbles into it. i think they wait to pee in a fresh one so that they will not make the soaked diaper leak with just one more small pee.
on a similar note, his dipes have been leaking overnight even with a snap in booster in it. any suggestions? ever since we switched back to a&h sensative skin, we have had no amonia stinkies in the morning and no build up issues. so i know it cant be that. should i switch him to huggies pure and natural or something for night time? those diapers, even though they are disposable, i do not feel guilty about. i only want to use those as an absolute last resort if no other suggestions help the matter. just so you know, i use the ML af covers and the pee is seeming to leak out of the sides of them and somewhat around the legs and waist. |

Have you tried adding another liner to boost the absorbancy? If the diaper is soaked when it leaks then it's just a matter of adding more absorbancy. Some little ones can get away with just one liner at night but it's not uncommon to need 2 or even 3, depending on the age and what kind of diaper you're using. You can even use two diapers if necessary (you could use the older Toddle-ease over top your One-Size for this).
Another thing is that if the diaper isn't saturated and you can't figure out a reason why it's happening then consider upsizing the cover. Seems to be a fairly common occurance that using a larger cover puts a stop to mysterious leaks, even if the current covers aren't looking/feeling too tight.

oh yes, his dipe has been totally saturated for 2 nights in a row even though i changed him at 1 this morning to try to avoid morning leaks. as you know, i am using the os diapers w the snap in liners. is it possible to add another liner to this onsomble? and if so, how do i go about doing this? i do not know if adding a toddle ease on top of the os will help as about 2 weeks ago, i left him in just a toddle ease overnight and did not wake him up to put him back in an os when they were finished going through the washer and dryer. by morning, the poor thing's bed was soaked.
ETA He has been drinking tons of liquid, mm, cow milk, water w stevia, and extremely diluted juice. i really do not want to cut back on his liquid intake at night just to solve this problem. i do not drink enough water myself because i do not like it and do not want him ending up somewhat dehydrated like me. |

I agree about the liquid intake, I've worked hard to get my kids to think of plain water to quench their thirst (not juices or pop like I tend towards).
You can absolutly add another liner. You can use as many liners as will fit (this depends on the size of the diaper and if it's folded or not, but you should be able to get at least 2 if not 3). If it's too bulky you can add it to the outside of the diaper (between the cover and diaper), that sometimes helps.
I'm not surprised that the Toddle-Ease alone leaked like that. It's rare that a toddler can go all night with just a diaper alone, even less so when that diaper is as thin as those Toddle-Ease. It should be completly different when it's in addition to the One-Size. It should offer the same absorbancy as about 2 liners but should at least spread the bulk a little differently (not all between the legs).
You could even go with two One-Size if you wanted. It'll be very bulky of course but since it's nighttime it doesn't really matter (not like he's trying to run & play in a super bulky diaper). I remember with my son we went through a stage where I would put a Lg Sandy's with a Toddle-Ease on top! You could always go back to 1-3 liners if he reduces his liquids intake.
I'd say start with a second liner and take it from there. Add a third if necessary and then consider double diapering if that doesn't help. Just remember if you do end up doulbe diaper or using 3 liners that you might need to upsize the cover to handle the bulk (and also pay particular attention to how pjs and/or undershirts fit over top, if they're too tight they could creep inside and wick liquid to the outside).

oh when i was talking about cds and liners before we switched to it, my dh was telling me how a very very thick diaper would torture the kid at night and so far, he has not minded the extra bulk at all. i know if i were a baby, i would rather be in a cloth diaper that is bulky, rather than having a wad of pee-soaked gel squishing between my legs. i explained that on yahoo answers when i was answering a question to vote for huggies or pampers, i got a thumbs down for that answer
so will using one of the hemp liners that you gave me in addition to the snap in ones help? those liners are pretty thin.. |

Nah, I think by far the majority of babies really just don't care. I've got pics of my girls with these absolutly huge diaper butts (and from someone who's used to cloth you can imagine how big it must be to appear silly to even me!!) and they just didn't care. And they were even older toddlers at the time, they could have verbally told me if it was uncomfortable!
Sure, the hemp liners would be great. One of the smaller ones may not be enough if the diaper was really that soaked, but you could add as many as you wanted. The nice part about such small liners is that you can really customize how much absorbency you want.
Not surprised about the reaction you got really. People are obsessed with trimness in diapers. They just keep getting thinner and thinner. I even saw a recent advertising that promoted how some upgraded version of Pampers is going to be even trimmer!!

| oh good god... aren't disposable diapers thin enough? if they make them even thinner, the diapers will be even more inadiquat than they already are. what are they trying to do? make them as thin as underwear? if they do that, all that will be between the poor baby's legs is SAP. wake up people! it is only the disposable diaper loving parents who obsess over tinyness and trimness. the babies do not care and would rather be in real diapers rather than those chemical laiden paper and plastic things! sigh... why do parents take their own convenience over their baby's comfort? just because a sposie keeps a baby dry, does not mean that it keeps a baby comfortable. trust me, i know this from my own post partom experience when i was using actual depends diapers with the plastic outer shell for 3 days. |

here is the answer that i posted for the huggies vs pampers question.
When my son was born last february, we used pampers swattlers. both my son and i hated those diapers because of the overwelming perfume that is in these diapers. i have asthma and whenever i caught a whiff of that diaper, i would have an attack. also he had dry patches all over his diaper area and a fever around his anal opening because of pampers. so then we switched to luvs because they were cheap. never again! a different perfumy scent, same results. also his genetals were at least 3 degrees hotter in these diapers and the poor kid was constantly sweating in them. so then we switched to huggies pure and natural. those diapers, in my opinion, are the next best thing to cloth diapers. they are extremely breathable and truly soft to the touch unlike other disposables, and do not have even a hint of diaper russeling noise. my son has never ever had a rash or a blowout in the pure and naturals. when we are in an area where using cloth diapers is not feasible, we use huggies pure and natural. as far as wipes, we use the huggies naturall refreshing cucumber and green tea wipes. we use washcloths as wipes, but when we use disposable ones, we use those.
ETA to the person who said that huggies can hold loads of pee in. um... change the diaper as soon as it has some swelling in it. it does not matter if it still feels dry to the touch. if the diaper has wet gel in it, change it! that is exactly how diaper rash starts, mothers leaving their kids in nonbreathable, soaked until they look as if they will burst disposables for an extended period of time just because the diaper feels "dry" to the touch.
also, how would you feel with a mass of swollen gel between your legs? pretty uncomfortable hmmm? gah! Source(s): my experiments with disposables, then finally switching to motherease cloth diapers and on occasion, using huggies pure and natural disposable diapers. 2 days ago 1 Rating: Good Answer 1 Rating: Bad Answer
wow! in the day that i did not check that question, i got a thumbs up! yay! someone with sense!
but anyway... i will try your suggestions with the liners and use double diapering as a last resort and huggies pure and natural as an absolute last resort if that does not work. he does not leak to the point where everything is wet, i just do not want the outside of the cover getting wet. |

| i am happy to give my report of my findings this morning. i put a cotton snap in liner in his diaper w a bamboo liner over top of that, not snapped of coarse, and this morning when he woke, the dipe was not saturated to the point of leaking, however, there was a very strong amonia smell but i can atribute that to the fact that he was in that dipe for at least 13 hours or so. nothing that a rince in hot water did not handle though. |
