  Should I switch? (lwhite)

I just started with CDs and bought a bunch of MEOS with AF covers. They seem small on my daughter who pulls at them and tells me they're for the baby (due in August).  I am buying some larger covers, but even the diapers themselves seem small on her. SHe is 2 and about 30 lbs I guess. SHould I be looking at Toddlease instead?  I don't want to keep buying all sorts of different things only to find I should have gone in a different direction.  SInce we are exptecing again I don't mind having what I have, I just want to make sure I am on the right path here. Bigger AFs or switch to toddlease? Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on making the switch to CDs!

It's hard to give you specific advice since every child is different and I have not tried Toddlease or Sandys. What I can say is that we use OS with our son who is 2 and 8 months and about 35 pounds without any problem. He is now day-dry, but when we put the diaper on for a nap he seems fine with it and a large AF cover. At night, with two liners in the diaper, he needs the XL AF cover and is on the last snap on each side, which makes me wonder, too, if we're nearing the end of the diaper's use. But he is tall and thin and as I said, every child is different.

ME does sell extender tabs you can use on the diapers if that is where the problem lies. They are not on the Web site, but many moms have mentioned them here. Also, most people find that the Large Sandy's fits slightly larger babies than the OS, so you could always consider going to that if the Toddle-Ease is still too big or if you think your daughter will be potty-training relatively soon. You could certainly reuse the Large Sandys with your second child, whereas not every kid needs the Toddle-Ease.

Also, I have heard of older toddlers who do not like the switch to cloth diapers as it is quite different, so make sure that the diaper really is small on her. If she complains about the fit, it may be true, but then again it may just be her way to let you know she feels different or uncomfortable without the problem really being the size.

I know it's not much help, but good luck!

I used the OS with a L AF on my 34-lb chunky 2-year-old son before he PTed, and they still fit my 3.5-year-old skinny 30-lb son, as well.  That said, the fit can really vary by child build.
You don't say what size cover you tried on, which makes me wonder if that might not be some of the problem.
As the PP said, the L Sandys might be something to consider.  They are cut differently, so they fit a little higher in the rise on an older child, and are also separately adjustable on the waist and leg.  They do fit more generously than the OS at the higher weights, they wouldn't be as huge a jump as to the Toddlease (which is the same diaper as the Sandys, just an even bigger size), and there would be a greater likelihood of your being able to use them with your next child as well.  You'd also probably stand a better chance of buying and/or selling them used, as there is a bigger market for them.  I thought my chunk might need the TE as he kept gaining weight, but the OS and L Sandys really did the job until he PTed, and that seems to be what most people find (though not all, of course, which is why the TE exists!).
ME does intro packs with the Sandys if you call them, so that might be a good way to try out their fit; they might also let you get one L Sandys one and one TE one--doesn't hurt to ask, right?  I would guess that the TE would be too big yet, but another thing to think about doing would be to ask ME for the measurements of the respective diapers.  Although there's a great deal of adjustability, of course, they will give you waist, thigh, and rise, which might help you.

I bought 6 Toddler sized diapers for my daughter's nighttime diaper and they work really well. They are large looking, but she doesn't mind at all. My daughter has been using them since she was about 14-months because she seems to really wet at night. The OS with an XL air flow cover are what we use during the day. I got the XL cover because the leg openings had more room in them than the L covers. By the way, my daughter is not at all tiny: 31 pounds 17.5 months old.

Thanks for all of your advice. I did find a store that sells CD locally and I bought 2 Thirsties Duo Size 2 covers and 2 L Prowraps and things seem to be working out better. I also bought some XL AF covers from the forum which should be here soon.  Certainly this has been an interesting journey. My 2 yr old is about 32 lbs and has gotten used to the feeling of CD over sposies, which took her some time but she did it.  Now I have to figure out how many diapers I will need when there are 2 in diapers, and not knowing how long it will be before the older one PTs.  SOmetimes I question why I switched - with 4 kids at home and one on the way it seems a bit crazy to add more laundry to the pile, but I'm getting used to it.  I've used the disposable liners a few times for the dirty diapers - today was the frst time she actually dirtied with the liner in! Joke's on me, I guess!
Thanks for all of your help.  We're plugging along and I do think the cover was the issue as the diapers themselves, even with a liner, seem to fit just fine.

When I had two in diapers, I had about 40 diapers, which allowed me to do the wash every 2.5 days or so and line dry.  If you use the dryer, you may be able to get away with fewer, but many people here recommend around 36 or so for two, since no matter how many diapers you might buy, your washer will hold only so many and they can be stored dirty for only so long.

I hope that once you get used to the cloth you will come to love it as much as many of us here do!  I started from a sense of duty but have really come to love cloth diapering.  I feel the performance is better, the storage of dirties is less smelly, and despite the wash load, I feel like they didn't end up being more work, since I don't have to worry about getting them at the store, and esp. for the newborn phase, I was washing only dirty diapers instead of dirty clothes, bedding, my clothes, etc. as I was when DS#1 had blowouts in any disposable!  :-)  Somehow cloth diapers take a yucky thing and turn it into a cool and loving thing.
