question Sandy's on a Baby with Chubby thighs? (mg3g)
Posted: 11:56:31 pm on 5/15/2010 Modified: Never

My son is 8 months old.  We are using MEOS right now but they are too tight in the legs.  His thighs are HUGE at 13 inches!  He is about 19 pounds and tall wearing 24 month clothes, he is solid but not super fat.

I am thinking about ordering some Sandy's as I was told side snapping diapers are better for babies with big legs.  Can someone please tell me if the Sandy's are larger then the MEOS in the leg?  And which size I should buy?

Thanks

I would call or e-mail ME directly to ask them for the thigh measurements for the L Sandys (you can ask about both S and L, but given the huge thighs, age, and weight, I wouldn't consider the S if I were you).  ME does their intro pack for a Sandys, but I believe that you need to call for it.  I guess it depends on the measurements you get, but I'd recommend taking advantage of that with a L Sandys.  You can always use an extra L AF cover, since babies, esp. big ones, can be in those forever, and that way you can see for yourself how it fits before committing a larger chunk of money.

My DD had chunky thighs, too.  She could not wear the MEOS because her thighs were just too big. I never actually measured them (though now I wish I had, just for the baby book), but she weighed 18 lbs at 4 or 5 months old. Looking back through my notes, she was "in between sizes" on the Sandies at that point. The smalls fit her at the waist, but the leg snaps were too tight. The larges, on the other hand, gaped at the legs and were enourmously long in the rise. At the suggestion from this forum, I kept using the smalls with the bottom leg snaps open. That worked out great until she grew into the larges. Another forum suggestion (that I didn't try) was to fasten the larges more snuggly using a snappi.

FYI, I also liked the fit of Fuzzibunz pocket diapers, but I literally could not fasten the BumGenious one-size pockets.
