Hello,
I wondered if anyone here could guess roughly how long my son will stay in size 1 sandys.
He's only 2 months but 14lbs already. He's not tall though. Very average length. All his weight is in his belly and chubby arms, thighs and face.
At the moment he's on the first poppers. I'm just wondering how many more smalls to buy.
Thanks! |

| hi there. is he on the smallest setting or the largest setting? if he is on the smallest but of average weight, i would think he would be in them for maybe up until 8 months old? this is just an estimation though. my son is 18 months old and can barely fit the small sandy's on the largest setting even though he is over 20 pounds. he has a chubby belly though. |

Unfortunately, there's no right answer to your question. My older son, not tall but very porky, outgrew the S Sandys around 4.5 months, maybe 18 lbs or so. I could still get them snapped, but he started blowing out up the back of them, which just doesn't typically happen with wonderful ME diapers, so I knew that it was time to move on. If he hadn't been such a super-pooper, I likely would have been able to use the S Sandys longer than I did. My younger son was always a skinny baby, and was able to wear the S Sandys for over a year, and over 20 lbs. I stopped using them with him around 16/18 months or so, I think, but because I wanted to sell them before a move, not because they no longer fit. How's that for unhelpful? From the sounds of it on this forum, 20 lbs or so really is the average use for the S Sandys, with some variation around that, but how to predict just when baby will hit that? Baby's build can really affect fit, too. From the sounds of it, your son probably wouldn't make it to a year in the S, but it's so hard to predict just how much baby will continue to gain. Since he's only two months old, one thing to consider is that you will likely decrease the number of diapers you are using per day as he (fingers crossed) begins to go longer stretches at night, for instance. Not a huge decrease, but it might make your stash last that smidge longer. You could also consider trying a few OneSize, as they aren't going to give you the big of a jump in size that there is from the S to L Sandys. Maybe you want to stick with all one style of diaper, but if you are open to different styles, you could add some OS to your stash and be able to use them both now and later, even if you still use primarily Sandys. You'd gain more diapers right now, but still be able to use the OS even if he's out of the S Sandys in a few months. |

| My baby outgrew then at 4 months (around 18lbs). Well, they still fit, but we used them overnight and I was having to boost them, and I had some L for my 2 year old anyways, posted them to sell and they went like hotcakes. He could have worn them a bit longer. I daresay he'd still fit them (as day diapers) now (7 months, 22lbs) cause the L's are still on the settings they were 3 months ago. |

Thank you for your replies everyone. It helped me decide I would get some second hand smalls. I found some for a good price. Then if they don't fit for so long it won't be a disaster.
We practice EC so the nappies are a back up and usually most poops go in the potty, so we're mainly concerned with the fit being comfortable for him. We're not good at predicting pees yet, but the small sandys I have are doing well with absorbency at the moment so I think we'll be okay there.
All best and thanks again! |
