Help! DH used fabric softner! (ashers1119)

Please tell me how much damage has been done.  I'm using the bumgenius one size with removable inserts.  I always wash using the bumgenius detergent, hang dry the outer diapers, and dry the liners in the dryer.  DH was preparing for a trip today and decided to wash his own shirts.  Since the diaper liners take 2 spins through our dryer to get dry, he decided to be "helpful" and put his wet shirts in with the second spin.  Of course he threw in a fabric softner sheet.  When I opened the door to the dryer my stomach fell.  Have I ruined our inserts?  Do I need to strip them?  How do I do that anyways?  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I will first comment that I haven't used pockets much.
That said, if this is one trip around the dryer with a dryer sheet, I don't think it's cause to panic.  If the diapers themselves were to be coated, that could get ugly, but at this point, worst case is that your absorbent liners aren't going to absorb like they should.  Esp. if you don't have anything high stakes going on, personally I'd just see if you have any problems.  If you don't really notice much, great, and just make sure you're washing on hot to get rid of the residue in the next wash/over time.  I would hope that such limited exposure wouldn't cause troubles, but if you think the liners aren't absorbing right, I'd think a hot wash or two would likely take care of it.
Stripping can mean various things, but the basic concept is to wash in as hot of water as you can get, often without detergent, sometimes with something like vinegar, and often more than once.  It depends what the problem is with the diapers.  In your case, although I doubt you really need to launch into a full-out stripping, I'd think that detergent would be helpful to break up the softener residue.

I agree. If it`s only the liners or inserts that got the fabric softener I wouldn`t worry too much about it.

Now if the pockets themselves got the softener that might be a bit different. The fleece in pockets is quite vulnerable to stuff like that so you might get leaks. You could always just use them while at home and see what happens. Worse case scenario if you do have issues you could just run them through another hot wash or two and I`m they`ll be fine.

Karen.

Thanks so much!  I'll see how they do today and hopefully it won't be an issue.  I'm so militant about how the diapers get washed I just kind of freaked out  I CD my oldest for 3 years without once making a washing "error," so I didn't know the kind of damage it would or wouldn't cause.

Wow!!  3 years without a washing mistake, you are one amazing momma!!

Just wanted to mention that if you LO has sensitive skin and the liners are in direct contact with his/her skin then you might see some redness/rash...  In that case, just rewash in hot water and you should be fine!
